When the North Door temporarily closed its doors due to the pandemic in 2020, it left a void in the hearts of many local artists and musicians. However, the closure also presented an opportunity for the owners to reimagine the bar and relocate it to a new, more intimate space that would feature more local talents in Austin. To complete this transformation, they enlisted our help in creating an updated visual identity that would represent the North Door's new direction.

One challenging request for this rebrand was to pay homage to the red X in the previous logo in subtle ways. How to show an X without showing an X? To solve this visual challenge, we got creative and decided to deconstruct the X into arrows. When turned outwards, these arrows become brackets to frame the new logo where there is an X shown in the negative space. The arrows are not only a clever hint to the X, they also serve as strong visual elements that can be used in the new brand's icon, pattern, and directional graphics. By using this unique approach, we were able to create a modern and sleek visual identity system that pays homage to the previous North Door logo.

As part of the North Door's rebrand, we didn't just stop at creating a new visual identity system. Our team also took on the task of designing and developing their new website, complete with an internal calendar, ticketing, and booking system. By keeping everything on the same platform, we were able to streamline the user experience and make it easy for patrons to find and book their favorite events.

To spread the word about the North Door's reopening on social media, our designer and copywriter joined forces to create a collection of fun and engaging posts that captured the energy and excitement of the new space. Their efforts paid off in a big way, generating hundreds of new followers and sold out shows during the first months of reopening since February 2023.

To top off the North Door’s new brand, we collaborated with our local vendor Industry Printshop to create a collection of cool merchandises. We understand the importance of supporting local businesses, and as designers, we strive to ensure that you can look good and also feel good about supporting the local community. From t-shirts to tote bags, the new North Door merchandise will become a must-have for loyal patrons and music enthusiasts alike.
